Wairakei Environmental Mitigation Charitable Trust
The Wairakei Environmental Mitigation Charitable Trust was established to facilitate the enhancement, protection and management of a variety of
geothermal and natural resources characteristics located within Environment Waikato's regional boundary. It addresses the environmental issues
of the Wairakei Geothermal Power Station. Funding is allocated to those projects which comply with the purpose of the Trust.

Project 1

Department of Conservation (Taupo/Turangi) - Tokaanu Recreation Reserve.
This project  follows the 2005 project  (Tokaanu Thermal Area sinter formations) and 2007 project (Tokaanu Recreation Reserve restoration and protection).
The project will look at the design and costs of conservation options for restoration attempt at the reserve. This proposal aims ultimately to see fluid flows in the geothermal system within 200m of the Tokaanu bathhouse and to restore the thermal features including Taumatapuhipuhi geyser



Pro ject 2

Orakei Korako Cave and Thermal Park (Orakei Korako) – This project involves the control and removal of Wilding pine at the Orakei Korako Cave and Thermal Park.
