Craters of the Moon Trust (Taupo) - Protection and Beautification of Craters of the Moon project

The Wairakei Environmental Mitigation Charitable Trust allocated funds in the 2007 – 2008 funding round  to the Craters of the Moon Trust for the construction and installation of a new viewing platform  at the No 2 crater.

The project was completed in the first quarter of this year and is now making the popular geothermal walk safer and more interesting to the many visitors to the park.

A new viewing platform was constructed on site and then installed and a new section of boardwalk was built off the main path with a wheelchair accessible ramp installed up to the viewing platform.

The project also included the planting of native shrubs in the park and on the road entrance by the kiosk to the park.

New interpretation panels have also been installed with updated information about the Craters of the Moon Geothermal walk.
